KJ-88 is a new direction for Monsturo (Los Angeles’ David Rothbaum). The music still sounds like a field recording from an imaginary interstellar space freighter, but a tonal backdrop has developed, as if the ship’s engines were tuned to a single, melancholy chord. All Monsturo recordings are essential, but this one might be a surprise to longtime followers of Rothbaum’s evolution.
